Getting Started
Let the Journey Begin!
If you are new to beekeeping and wondering where to begin, this section will guide you through the first steps of setting up your hive and getting your colony established. The pages below cover the basics of preparing your equipment, installing your bees, and avoiding a few common mistakes that beginners often encounter.
Beekeeping is a learning process that continues year after year. The guides below are based on what we have learned from working with bees here in South Texas and are meant to help you begin that journey with confidence.
If you would like a complete ready-to-go setup, our Apiary Starter Kits include everything needed to get started — a Nuc of Bees, a Deluxe Hive Set, the essential tools, and a seat in the Basic Beekeeping Class.
In beekeeping terms, the wooden equipment (boxes, frames, feeder, bottom board, and cover) is called the "hive", while the bees themselves are referred to as the "colony".
